gestalt project v2

To state it simply art for me is mainly something for fun.  If it wasn’t fun I wouldn’t be doing it.  The possibility of a career really comes secondary as I’m sure there are other far easier ways for me to make money and even make more money as artists now a days aren’t appreciated as much as they used to.  However it’s something I enjoy and it’s something I plan on pursuing and hopefully making a successful career out of someday.  Whatever I can get with art I suppose would be the goal.  Whether it be graphic designs, character designs, commissions, or even comic books and cartoons, art is something I wish to do with my life.

When making art I really take shortcuts when I can, although I often end up taking more than I should and it can sometimes compromise my work.  I’m getting better at making things more real and fluid, as I’m often rigid.  And with that I’m taking fewer and fewer shortcuts.  My themes are typically something more along the ideas of cartoons or semi realistic.  I’m trying harder to be more realistic in my art and it’s hard considering I never gave much thought to it before and right now I’m kind of going head long into it in a personal crash course study.  But in the end when everything is improved greatly, it’ll be all worth it.

Work now is still a bit cartoonish, especially with my delve into color.  The application of color seems simple and easy but it’s not.  It takes practice, commitment, and even less use of shortcuts.  It’s something I’m going to have to work on but it’s also something I’m really looking forward to mastering.  Nothing would feel better than to present a work that makes a viewer’s jaw drop in awe at the sight.  When I get there I’ll know I succeeded.   For me with art things are summed up simply that there should be nothing you can’t draw.

A cliché is really an overused idea or meaning that eventually loses all of it’s original context due to it’s amount of use.  Often insulted for being used.  While a metaphor is an idea or object used to represent something completely different, without the use of like or as.  It’s a simple meaning and comparison that is often visualized in comedic senses.

They work by leaving everything to the imagination.  A metaphor is a strong visual image that empowers the message it’s conveying so it’s often used for nearly every situation including in art.  A visual metaphor is used to convey a message and meaning and it works to heighten the piece.  Making it very important to show an abstract concept.  Used simply to display an idea or concept without over describing it and getting the point across.

A project I had to do for my digital art class.  Kind of a look at the idea of what is art and with all that man has created we forget nature in a way is the greatest artist of them all.

Art as a Tool

Art uses mediums, tools, and palettes.  Does digital art and the creation of it use any of these forms of matter?  Would one consider a piece of medium art, or the process of making it a medium or a tool.  You do use a tool, the mouse or pen tablet.  Than is the computer program in which you create your art the medium?  It is easy to posit whether or not you see the use of digital art as simply a tool to convey messages used with another tool, the computer.  I believe digital art in itself is a medium.  The computer program used mostly is what makes it a medium as the program can both be used to make paint, crayons, water colors, 3 dimensional rendering.  Just about everything that could possibly be used in the physical world and then some.

Does that make digital art that important of a means of art?  Is it a respectable medium in that case?  I think it is since it’s all about what you see as art.  A long time ago simply drawing with a pencil was not seen as art.  Now it is, mostly because it takes talent and time and skill.  I personally believe that’s what it takes to make art no matter the medium. Skill, talent, and often time.  To say that anybody can create art is rather ignorant considering if everybody could create similar works of beautiful art, than it’s not so specialized anymore.  It’s not unique anymore and it’s no longer a talent.  And that’s what art I think truly is, a talent.  Digital art is no different since even though it makes it a little cheaper and often easier to create wonderful works of art, it’s still a talent that not exactly everybody can do.  I know because I’ve tried and have pretty much failed up to this point and still have to practice and hone the talent.  So digital art is not only a new medium, but I think it should be here to stay.

sebik_ad

An ad is made successful if it captures a person’s eyes right away and draws them into read over the entire advertisement and then makes them want to buy the product.  It has to touch them on a deep level of self-being actually. Does it make a person want to buy it’s product?  Well it does if you think you deserve a girl like the one pictured that

Uses plenty of color and form to convey the sex appeal that the ad itself is trying to sell.  Selling beauty so it uses beauty.  The symmetry is asymmetrical but the eye follows the image easily.  Of course the focal point that always bring you back is the smiling topless girl.  Using plenty of range with the color balances.   The tones, the values, everything is blended perfectly and the portrait work of realism is done professionally.
